29 Dec Introducing Our CEO’s 2025 Year-End Reflections
Introducing Our CEO’s 2025 Year-End Reflections
General Year-End Letter from Our CEO, Dr Isabel Tarling
As we reach the end of another remarkable year, I am filled with gratitude for the work our team has accomplished and the trust our partners continue to place in us.
At its core, Limina has always stood for deliberate, purposeful transformation. We believe that change is a deliberate act of stepping through the threshold into new ways of imagining, designing, and experiencing learning. Throughout the year, our teams have worked across diverse sectors in public service, higher education, corporate training, development agencies, and community-based organisations to do this. In some projects, we reimagined how learning can unfold in digital, hybrid, and face-to-face environments. At other times, our teams supported leaders in navigating complex ethical landscapes, strengthening systems where data guides decision-making, or elevating learning design in rapidly evolving fields. Our teams created and styled various digital learning platforms to reach thousands of learners across the continent in engaging and innovative ways. In other areas, the research team created accessible and easy-to-use career-guidance and professional-development resources that directly support youth and educators, evaluated existing projects from across South Africa for unemployed youth, and supported learning achievement and assessment. Each project challenged us to innovate, collaborate, and refine our craft. Each one expanded our understanding of what meaningful learning transformation looks like.
This was also the year we became one of only four certified Moodle Partners on the African continent. Our partnership allows us to offer clients not only direct access to Moodle HQ expertise, but also an assurance that every LMS we build meets the highest standards in global best practice.
Since we never do things in half-measure, our Tech and Learning Experience Design teams were also certified as Moodle facilitators for the Moodle Educator and Moodle Administrator Qualifications (MEQ & MAQ) courses. This is no small feat, as these courses are demanding and strenuous to complete! What it means is that our clients can now complete our Limina Level 1 and 2 Educators Using Moodle, or Administrating Moodle courses, preparing them for the MEQ or MAQ. We’ve also created ‘Facilitating with Moodle’ and ‘Running the Moodle Helpdesk’ courses as additional add-ons. These diverse learning pathways are open to all who use Moodle, and we’re excited to see the keen interest from universities, learning design organisations and many others to enrol for 2026!
Underlying every milestone this year was our unwavering commitment to the mission that began the day Limina was founded: to empower those who teach, train, lead, mentor, design, and support learning to step confidently into a new era of digital, human-centred education. We believe that when educators (at any level) are equipped and inspired, they don’t just adapt to the future, they help shape it. That belief guides our work with partners across government, civil society, industry, and philanthropy, and it will continue to propel us forward.
Our vision remains bold: to reimagine learning and enable change in 10 million learners by 2035. We move toward this goal through consistent, thoughtful, evidence-informed design – one course, one research study, one digital platform, one educator, one learner at a time. This year, our work reached classrooms and training venues from rural to urban contexts across Africa, impacting students and trainees in low-bandwidth, mobile-first settings, to professionals and public service employees navigating rapidly changing workplaces, to leaders tasked with strengthening institutions for the public good. Every one of these moments matters because each one pushes the needle toward a more equitable, innovative, and accessible learning future.
Across every sector we touched this year, we saw how small acts of thoughtful design can create ripples of impact far beyond a single classroom, platform, or project. A teacher who gains confidence shifts the experience of an entire class. A strengthened system supports thousands of professionals. A redesigned course opens new pathways for youth. A revitalised digital platform brings learning within reach for communities across the continent. These ripples accumulate, reshaping how people learn, work, and lead.
As we look to the year ahead, we remain committed to creating the kinds of learning experiences that continue to ripple outward, strengthening society one learner, one educator, and one institution at a time.
To our clients, collaborators, researchers, trainers, mentors, and supporters: Thank you. Your trust fuels our work. Your partnership makes our impact possible, and your commitment to learning inspires us daily.
To the Limina team – our Liminaires – you have pushed boundaries, solved problems with heart and creativity, and delivered work of exceptional quality. You have once again proven that innovation thrives when people play, learn, co-create, and dare to imagine something better.
To our family and friends, every cheerleader and co-believer – thank you for all the shared joy and love for what we did!
We’re extremely grateful to each one of you for being in our ecosystem, a space where we deeply enjoy making the world a better place, and for believing with us that we actually can do just that!
As we step into a new year, we do so with optimism, curiosity, and a deep belief in the transformative power of learning. We look forward to continuing this journey with you, crossing new thresholds, embracing new challenges, and designing learning that is relevant, joyful, and built for real impact.
Here’s to the next chapter. Here’s to growth, collaboration, and innovation – together.
Warm regards,
Dr Isabel Tarling
